Pengaruh Jumlah Pulp Pelepah Sawit Terfibrilasi dalam Komposit Hibrid Polipropilena dan Poli Asam Laktat

Pulp pretreatments were needed to improve its ability as a reinforcement in composite products. The pretreatment was conducted chemically to improve pulp hydrophobicity or mechanically to increase pulp fiber aspect ratio. Hybrid matrix composites consisted of polypropylene (PP) and poly lactic acid (PLA) were developed in order to produce composite products that can decompose naturally, and also has high mechanical performance. This study objective was to determine the effect of fibrillated oil palm frond pulp content on composites mechanical properties. Bleached pulp of oil palm fronds was fibrillated using a high-speed blender. Fibrillated pulp with the amount of 10 persen, 20 persen, 30 persen and 40 persen of composite total weight, was dispersed into the PLA matrix to form sheets. Sheets of PLA and fibrillated pulp were then mixed with PP in rheomix to obtain compound of PLA / PP / fibrillated pulp. Composites were produced by compression moulding technique. The mechanical properties of composites were tested with a universal testing machine, based on ASTM D-638 and D-790. Composite fracture morphology was analyzed with a light microscope.
