Kurniawati Hastuti Dewi adalah peneliti senior pada Pusat Penelitian Politik (P2P), Lembaga Ilmu Pengetahuan Indonesia (LIPI). Memiliki passion dalam bidang gender dan politik,  kepemimpinan perempuan, gender dan desentralisasi, politik kebijakan sosial, gender dan perubahan iklim, hak-hak asasi perempuan dan anak, Islam dan demokrasi di Indonesia dan Asia Tenggara. Sejak tahun 2014 menginisiasi, membentuk, dan memimpin kelompok penelitian Gender dan Politik di Pusat Penelitian Politik-LIPI. Gelar Master dalam bidang Studi Asia dengan spesialisasi gender di Asia Tenggara dengan predikat First Class Honours diperoleh dari Faculty of Asian Studies Australian National University tahun 2007. Gelar Doktor dalam bidang Area Studies dari Graduate School of Asian and African Area Studies Kyoto University Jepang diperoleh tahun 2012. Disertasi doktoralny memenangkan pendanaan dari International Program of Collaborative Research-Center of Southeast Asian Studies (CSEAS) Kyoto University dan Kyoto University Presindent’s Special Fund, diterbitkan menjadi buku berjudul Indonesian Women and Local Politics: Islam, Gender and Networks in Post-Suharto Indonesia (Singapore: National University of Singapore Press and Kyoto University Press, 2015). Project terbarunya mengenai “Revisiting Gendered Ideologies and Womanhood(s) in Post-reformasi Indonesia” bersama dengan peneliti dari UNSW, lolos pendanaan UNSW-Indonesia Seed Research Grants (2017). Selalu aktif berjejaring dengan ilmuan dan aktifis internasional diantaranya tergabung dalam Asian Association of Women’s Studies (AAWS). Kajian dan pemikirannya tersebar dalam berbagai publikasi internasional diantaranya Jurnal Southeast Asian Studies, SOJOURN: Journal of Social Issues in Southeast Asia, Masyarakat Indonesia, Indonesian Feminist Journal, Jurnal Perempuan.
